How to Juggle
Start with plastic grocery bags or scarves
Toss scarves as high as you can to the opposite corners.
1.Palms stay facing down all the time.
2.Make an "X" with the scarves.
3.Catch straight down ("Claw like a Lion").
A. One scarf or object
- Start with the green scarf/bag
- Palms stay down."claw like a lion" to catch.
- You'll be tossing across but you'll catch straight down. Toss
until you're comfortable. Be careful not to release the scarf in the middle of the box or they will become tangled when you add more scarves.
B. Two scarves:
- Left hand leads. (Left, right, left, right.) Make an "X" with the scarves. Catch straight down. Toss high to the corners of your "box".
- Right hand leads (Right, left, right, left). Same instructions as leading left."X", catch straight down not across the body, and toss high to the corners.
- "Alternating" is next and the most important step towards juggling with three objects. If one is having difficulty with three scarves, s/he should come back to this step and
practice more. The green scarf goes first every time. (Right, left, left, right, right, left, left, right.it's easier if you just remember that the green scarf goes up first.)
C. Three scarves:
- Shove one scarf in the back two fingers (pinky and ring finger) of the hand you want to start with when you toss the scarves. The second scarf goes in the remaining three fingers (middle, forefinger and thumb). Place the third scarf in the opposite hand.
- Whenever juggling 3 objects or scarves, always start with the hand that has two objects. It doesn't matter whether you have 2 objects in your right or left hand. I wrote it the way I did to make the explanation a little simpler.
- You start the "jug" by using the hand that holds two scarves. You toss the first one then you toss the one in your right hand. Next catch the first one thrown (with your right hand) and then throw the third scarf (from the left hand). Think: "throw-throw, catch, throw, catch, throw, catch, throw, catch."
- After that, it is the same motion as "alternating". Think: "throw-catch-throw-catch-throw catch".
Have some fun with this and you family and friends-Learning to juggle is a lot like returning to school, you have a lot of balls/scarves or other objects in the air all the time.
